Welcome to Ravix's guide on how to become a happy and successful farmer!
First of all we would like to inform you that there are other guides which provides a more detailed guide to farming i.e. fr.zam.com/wiki/Category%3AFarming_(FR).
Dorian Silvervale has made great guides about the quests in both farms you can find them here:
Dorian Silvervale's Guide To Wild's Farming:
www.mysticmayhem.net/index.cgi?board=farming&action=display&thread=24008
Dorian Silvervale's Guide To Briarwood Farming:
www.mysticmayhem.net/index.cgi?board=farming&action=display&thread=24003
I have however added a video to show you how to handle the Shamblers. You will find that at the bottom of this post.
Our main objective with this guide is to show you how rewarding farming can be. So why not start with the rewards you can get.
Rewards!
These are the rewards you can get from selling recipes in the Wilds Farm:
And these are the rewards you can get from selling recipes in the Briarwood Farm:
We recommend that you pick 1 recipe to focus on. Farm and save your crops for a big sale. If you sell during power hour your coin rewards are doubled. If you sell during power hour and with a 100 % coin booster (a TCG VR), your coin rewards are tripled.
Here is an example:
50 Simone in Wilds Farm
Coins earned: 358 250
Coins earned power hour: 716 500
Coins earned power hour + boost: 1 074 750
Keep in mind that if you want to do a really big sale the highest amount of recipes you can sell in 2 hours (using double power hour and 100 % coin booster) is ca. 300.
Leveling up - Seeds and Tools
Are you getting ready to farm now? We suggest that you follow the quest lines in the farms, Wilds and Briarwood. As you level up these seeds and tools will be made available to you:
Corrected 24th of March 2012
Recipes
In these charts you can see what you need to grow to get the different recipes (L is for the level when you get the recipes):

Don't have coins to farm?
If you don't have the coins to buy soil we suggest that you battle in Croaking Vale during power hour. You will then earn approximately 40.000 coins. As a member that will give you more than 440 soils.
Last, but not least, we present:
Oh dear, how did this happen?
If you have any questions about farming - feel free to ask us. Here on the forum or in game.
Kind Regards,
the happy farmers

Here are some of the farming items you can buy in SC Marketplace:
Crop Duster:
810 SC member, 900 SC non-member
By far my favorite item in the Realms. If you want to farm a lot, this is a very good investment. The prices for using the Crop Duster are:
Bug Repellent: 250 coins
Water: 500 coins
Fungus Killer: 750 coins
Miracle Grow: 2.500 coins
Fertilizer: 10.000 coins
Scarecrow:
180 SC member, 200 SC non-member
Unless you are planning to buy a Crop Duster, this is a good investment. How many you will need to cover all your soils depends on the layout of your soils.
Sprinkler:
180 SC member, 200 SC non-member
Unless you are planning to buy a Crop Duster, you could invests in some of these. They do however only cover 8 soils, so I suggest that you water by using some of the other watering equipment.
Fertilizer:
90 SC member, 100 SC non-member
By using Fertilizer you speed up the growing time. So a crop that would take 2 hours will be finished in 1 hour. You get 10 Fertilizer bags, but I think this is a waste of SC. If you have a Crop Duster you can use it to fertilize and use coins to do that.
Miracle Grow:
90 SC member, 100 SC non-member
By using Miracle Grow you can heal damaged crops and bring withered crops back to life. I would actually advice against spending SC on this. No crops are so precious that you would have to spend SC on them. If you have a Crop Duster, Miracle Grow is included and you use coins.
Vault Berries will never be damaged. Well, at least I haven't seen that happen yet.
